A shared location also enables learning by observation. Watching how othersinteract with coworkers, react in a crisis, or use shared documentation and technology, is a powerful tool forunderstanding everything from the most practical matters to internalizing corporate culture and values and “the way things are done here.” In a shared setting, the use of shared materials and equipment is visible to everyone in the room, allowing people to adjust their behaviors to coordinate their use. Watching how others use these “artifacts” can lead to a shared understanding of their use and the interaction around them.
